Abstract:
In a vertically hybrid structure, the steel is truncated in the transition column, which will lead to the distortion of the internal force transform. The finite element model of SRC-RC transition columns was developed using ABAQUS by considering different effects of restraint stress around concrete. The model has been validated against published experimental results. According to the internal force and deformation characteristics of a transformation column, the inflection point location was researched. Then, the shear capacity of the transition column was studied, and the results were compared with experimental results in references. Finally, parametric studies were performed to investigate the security and rationality of the shear capacity formula in code by FEM. The results showed that the shear capacity of existing specification is unsafe, and the formula needs to be revised by considering the internal force and deformation characteristics of a transformation column.
