Abstract:
Wind topographic effect should be considered for the wind-resistant design of buildings in hilly terrain. A detailed comparison on wind topographic factor of hilly terrain is made considering different Codes and standards, such as China (GB 50009-2012), Japan (AIJ-2004), America (ASCE/SEI 7-10), Canada (NBC-2005), ISO (ISO 4354-2009(E)), Australia/New Zealand (AS/NZS 1170.2-2011), Europe (BS EN 1991-1-4-2005), Britain (BS 6399-2-1997), etc. The expressions for calculating wind topographic factor are modified to a simplified unified form for the clarity of concepts. To investigate the distribution of the topographic factor along the hillside, wind tunnels test results of a single hill model with different slopes are introduced. Some suggestions for topographic factor are put forward.
