Abstract
Multi-scale calculation can obtain an appropriate balance between computational precision and computational cost, and it has been widely applied in many subjects and engineering purposes. To accomplish a reliable interface between a global model and a local model, a multi-point constraint equation method is realized in finite element software based on the multi-scale calculation theory, and applied in the study of the mechanical properties for a steel tower. The multi-scale finite steel tower simulation result is verified by a TTA model, a rigid-framed model, a truss-framed model and an experiment. The results show that the multi-scale finite calculation can efficiently simulate the whole steel tower mechanical behavior and the complex bonding stress distribution between different connection parts. The proposed methodology is applicable in civil engineering.
