STUDY ON THE AERODYNAMIC INTERFERENCE EFFECT OF TWO SIDE-BY-SIDE SQUARE CYLINDERS

Abstract
To study the interference effect on the aerodynamic characteristics of two side-by-side square cylinders at different spacing ratios, the wind pressure from a wind tunnel test on a rigid model was adopted. By changing the distance between two side-by-side square cylinders, the pressure coefficients and the lift and drag coefficients of two side-by-side square cylinders with different spacing ratios were obtained. The results show that when 1.2≤L/D<2.5, the interference effect on the time-average wind pressure coefficient of the two side-by-side square cylinders is obvious, and is mainly manifested on the inner side. The interference effect on the time-averaged drag coefficient and the fluctuating lift coefficient is a reduction effect. WhenL/D≥2.5, the interference effects on the time-average wind pressure coefficient, the time-average drag coefficient and the fluctuating lift coefficient of the two side-by-side square cylinders are not obvious.
