Abstract
The freezing of strata is a complicated issue involving the thermal- solid - fluid coupling field. In this paper, a tunnel project with horizontal freezing is simulated by quasi-coupling numerical analysis method. The distribution of temperature in the soil and its variation with time are investigated to obtain proper technical parameters, characteristics of the strata freezing process, and mechanical properties of the frozen wall. The influence of digging a tunnel on the stability of the ground is also studied to ensure the safety of the construction. It is found that the horizontal ground freezing effectively constrains the deformation of the strata and the ground surface.
