SHEAR STRENGTH OF REINFORCED CONCRETE MEMBERS BASED ON MODIFIED COMPRESSION FIELD THEORY

  • Based on the modified compression field theory, this paper develops an equation to calculate the shear capacity considering the shear contribution of concrete in compression, the shear stress transmitted across crack interface, and the contribution of stirrups based on shear failure mechanism of reinforced concrete members. The proposed equation is verified through a comparison with the experimental results from different sources (275 in total). It was found that consistency between shear strength calculated using the derived expressions and test data were well. So it is suitable for shear analysis and design of reinforced concrete beams.
