Abstract
The compound pile foundation is a kind of piled raft foundation in which the loads of supper-structure are carried by both piles and subsoil. In such kind of pile foundation, the determination of a single-pile bearing capacity is very important. In this paper, a case history of a high rising building with a compound pile foundation is introduced, and FEM (the finite element method) is implemented to analyze the project by a three-dimensional nonlinear finite element model. The analytical results show that a single-pile bearing capacity lies on its position in the group piles—corner pile, border pile, middle pile, and the side-friction of the upper 5―10 diameter length of a pile is cut off when defining its single-pile bearing capacity. These rules are used and verified by practical cases.
