Abstract
The impact procedure of elastic and elastoplastic beams under lateral shock of elastic and elastoplastic balls are simulated using FEM numerical method when the contact deformation is considered. The elastic and elastoplastic impact loads of beams are obtained for the following cases: (1) beams impacted with balls of different rigidity; (2) beams of different rigidity, mass ratios and speeds. The calculation results show that for the impact between the elastic beam and the ball, the bigger the ball-beam relative rigidity is, the bigger the peak value of the elastic impact load and the shorter the contact time is. When the ball velocity is increased, the peak value of the impact load is approximately linearly increased and the contact time is decreased nonlinearly. The peak value of the impact load is not always in the first contact duration. When the speed is constant, the bigger the mass ratio is the shorter the contact time between the ball and the beam, and the smaller the peak value of the impact load is. For the impacts between elastic, elastoplastic ball and elastoplastic beam, the nonlinear material character has very considerable effect on the impact load and it can decrease the peak value of the load to one magnitude. The peak value of the impact load is proportional to the ball velocity but not linear relation. The bigger the mass ratio is, the smaller the peak value of the impact load is and the shorter the contact time.
