STRESS INTENSITY FACTORS FOR CIRCUMFERENTIAL PERIODIC CRACKED PIPES UNDER TENSION

  • Based on the energy release rate of “non-spontaneous” crack extension, i.e., G*-integral theory, a very simple method is proposed to estimate stress intensity factors for circumferential periodic cracked pipes and shells under tension. A series of closed form expressions of stress intensity factors are derived, which can also be modified and applied to cylindrical panels. The numerical results given in the paper agree well with the ones by Tada.
