Abstract
The concept of weighted foundation modulus is advanced in this paper to improve the existing finite element-finite layer method. The improved finite element-finite layer method is then used to analyze the characteristics of the inner forces and deformation of piles under inclined loads. Not only may the influence of the stratification and non-homogeneity of subsoil and other factors be considered, but the nonlinear property of soil around the pile can be reasonably evaluated as well. Besides, the P-Δ effect along the pile shaft due to the co-action of axial and lateral loads is also studied. Results show that the proposed improved finite element-finite layer method is more effective for the analysis of pile behavior under inclined loads.
