Abstract
Cellular element method is a new numerical method. In this method the global analysis of structure is changed into a series of local analyses by using the idea of Cellular Automata. It may have a promising future for large structures because it hardly has any special requirement on the capability of computer. It can be developed into a highly parallel arithmetic to adapt to the request of parallel computer in the future. Therefore, the new method is a good numerical method with great potential. It is applied to the analysis of splines in this paper. The computing steps and results are presented. Based on the numerical results, the feasibility, advantages and disadvantages of cellular element method are discussed.
