  • The present paper gives the derivation of the displacement sensitivity of truss structures made of piece wise linear material, with respect to the cross sectional areas of bars. A three-bar truss example is provided. It is shown that the displacement sensitivity at the transition point of material stiffness is discontinuous and the displacement contour of design space is rough. The sensitivity formula and iterative scheme in the optimality criterion approach developed in references are further clarified.
