Abstract
Planar analysis of the static behavior of Bottomhole assembly (BHA) under large deflection has been carried out successfully with the method of weighted residuals. The BHA analysis program thus developed can be run on a micro-computer to reveal rapidly the planar behavior of a bottomhole assembly. It is shown that some large deflectioneffects on BHA behavior increase with hole curvatures, and program developed for a BHA analysis based on the small deflection assumptionshould not be used in medium or short radius lateral drilling.
