A SUMMARY OF MODAL SUPERPOSITION METHODS OF DYNAMIC ANALYSIS FOR NONCLASSICALLY DAMPED STRUCTURES

In this paper,the modal superposition methods of dynamic analysis for non-classicallydamped structures are reviewed,and all the modal methods available are summarizedinto three versions defined as the real-modal approximation method, the complex-modalmethod and the approximate complex-modal method. The main procedures of each method are represented and the advantages and weaknesses are pointed out. Finally,the particular superiority of the approximate complex-modal method is emphasized.
