Abstract
In this paper, an analytical method is developed in order to discuss on the directional stability of driven piles. We let driving forces at the pile top be periodic change and the Mathieu equation is derived. For various kinds of soils, critical lengths can be obtained from stability charts of the Mathieu equation. The case in which the driving force at the pile top is constant can be taken as a particular example of this paper.
