EFFECT OF VARIOUS TURBULENCE MODELS ON SIMULATED RESULTS OF CAVITATING FLOW

  • Four turbulence models are adopted to simulate cavitating flow around the hydrofoil. Compared with water tunnel experimental data, the precision of each model to simulate cavitating flow is investigated. The simulation results show that the surface pressure coefficient on the hydrofoil predicted by DES(Detached Eddy Simulation)model is the closest to that measured in water tunnel experiment, while the standard model, RNG model, Realizable model give less accurate prediction about the surface pressure coefficient in the detached zone, with the prediction from the standard model having the largest deviation from the experimental data. During the simulation of unsteady flow, the lift coefficient predicted by DES model shows a strong time-dependent behavior, and fluctuates in a large range. However, the lift coefficient predicted by three other models only fluctuate in a small range.
